3 July: Day Twelve My favorite Day!
Our Itinerary for the Day:

Giant's Causeway
Today was my favorite day of the tour. It was packed full of one wow after another. We started early today and it was totally worth it to be the first ones at Giant's Causeway. Mother Nature was the star here, from the amazing rock formations to the crashing of the waves. It was all WOW!

Bushmills Whiskey Distillery
I have always loved "behind the scene" kind of tours. While some of the Distillery was not in actual production, we still got a fun glimpse at the process. As a bonus, you get not only a wee bit of whiskey at the end of the tour, but also a small bottle as a souvenir! (They were under 3oz. so I even put them in my liquids bag and brought them home on the plane in my carryon with no problem!)

Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge
What an amazing adventure! While not too scary, the rope bridge does get your heart pumping a little bit faster! AND... you have to actually cross it not once, but TWICE! After you cross over the bridge to the small island, the only way back to the mainland is by the same bridge.
We made our way over to the small green island and had just enough time to soak up the sunshine for a few minutes and gaze at the breathtaking views of the Antrim Coast. Those Irish people are trusting you again not to take a wrong step and plunge over the edge while walking around the island. (To me that was way scarier than the rope bridge!) |
Dunluce Castle
The castle ruins by themselves were impressive, but throw in a great story of a stormy night when the kitchen fell into the ocean below during a dinner party and this place was fantastic. At the beginning of our tour the weather had turned quite rainy which only added to the drama of the ruins. (I will admit that by this point in the day we were a bit tired, and had we been on our own probably would have skipped the castle and gone back to the hotel for a nap! However this is one of the moments when it was perfect to be on the tour. I'm so glad we saw the castle, and even though I was tired, I didn't have to worry about any of the logistics. I just got to enjoy.)

Our Free Evening...
Happy Birthday Donna! What a day for a birthday! After all the adventures of the day, we decided to have a birthday dinner at our hotel. Afterwards we took a walk and explored the other end of Portrush. Even though it was close to 10pm the sun was just setting and gave us a beautiful sunset. A perfect ending to a perfect day.
