21 June: Pretour
Our Itinerary for the Day:
Welcome to IrelandI highly recommend arriving before a tour at least a day early. It helps to get over jet lag and allow for any travel delays. We had already been in London for four days, so we weren't having jet lag issues anymore! However I'm still glad we arrived a day early. We got to explore Dublin, and feel like it was our own before sharing it with the group! (The only tour where we didn't arrive a day early was the Heart of Italy tour, and I still feel like I never really saw Florence!)
We took a mid-morning flight from London Heathrow to Dublin which allowed us to arrive in Ireland by mid-afternoon. Therefore on our first evening we had plenty of time to explore our Dublin neighborhood before a fun pub dinner and music. Grafton Street

Our experiences coming full circle...
One of our favorite ways to get ready for a trip is "fun research" by reading books and watching movies. In the months leading up to a trip I will start reading novels and non-fiction about our next destination. For this trip I even saved a new book from one of my favorite authors (Maeve Binchy) to start on the plane ride over and to read while I was traveling around Ireland. Movies are especially helpful to give kids an easy preview of a travel location. I always find that if my daughter has a little back ground knowledge of our travel locations she has more fun. It is so exciting to see something with your own eyes that you have read about or watched in a movie. Traveling does make our experiences come full circle!
